Momming in the Mundane: having the nice things

So this happened a while ago and while the picture isn't much to look at, it is a glass pitcher that we got as a wedding gift on top of my kitchen counter in pieces, having been pulled off of the fridge shelf and dropped while full of sweet tea by a sweet Little that just saw a handle to pull and pulled it.

I'll be honest, my first thought, after making sure the Little was okay (he was, just confused a little bit and covered in sweet tea goodness), quickly taking off his wet clothes and moving him to the living room to be sure he didn't step on any glass while I cleaned up, was "this is why we can't have nice things."  It was mostly a joke.

Everyone told us to put away the nice things once Little was mobile.  But, we don't have lots of fancy things anyway, so I haven't been too worried about it.  But here it was, my pretty pitcher in a little pile.

Easy homemade tomato [sauce] dip

Today, I'm excited to share a fun little recipe that I've made recently that is healthy, yummy, and versatile.  This dip was inspired by the fresh tomato sauce from this yummy eggplant pizza recipe (which I also made recently and LOVED).

But, when I had some extra peppers in the freezer and half an onion from the cookout we had for Little's birthday, I decided to throw it all together and see how it turned out.  In a word, delicious.

The Italian seasoning make this a little less salsa like, but I still really enjoyed it with chips for a good afternoon snack.  It's got a small bit of a sweet taste that is just perfect.  I think this would also work really well on a larger scale in spaghetti or any pasta dish that calls for tomato based sauce.  If hubs didn't really dislike onions, I would be making spaghetti with this sauce tonight.

Life lately

Y'all.  I thought it had been about a month maybe a month and a half since I wrote last.  It's been over two months!  We recently had dinner with a friend from college who pointed out to me that it had "been a while since you've written anything". And it looks like she was totally right!

I've actually got about 4 posts saved in draft form that need tiny little edits before publishing, so I haven't been completely neglecting blog land - only you can't see the work until it's out there.

It feels like things have been non-stop over here though.  Little has started taking one nap on most days and although he learned to sleep through the night, it only lasted about two weeks before he got a cold and that was wrecked and now he's got molars coming in and ends up with me every night.  We've got to figure something out, but we haven't yet, so I don't have anything to report on that front. [It also means that I don't have a lot of computer time period, so the blog is in WAY last place on the to-do list.]

Since we've talked last, we have:
- celebrated our Little's first (!!) birthday
- visited the pumpkin patch
- planned a fun fall vacation
- went to Little's first football game
- dressed up like Ninja Turtles as a family for Halloween

I have so many things floating around in my head, y'all.  I want to share them, I do.  But it's taking time.  I'm still reading your blogs when I can and love seeing what you're up to.

I'll be back, promise.
